Privacy Policy

Last updated · June 17, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what information Letterway collects when you use our mobile app and website, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. Questions? Email us at tryletterway@gmail.com.

Information we collect

We collect the information you give us when you create an account and build your profile:

  • Account details — your email address and password, or your Google account if you sign in with Google. Authentication is handled by our provider, Clerk.
  • Profile information— your display name, date of birth, gender, the languages you speak, the topics you’re interested in, and your customized avatar.
  • Location— if you grant permission, we use your device’s precise location to suggest nearby pen-pals and award a location-based stamp. This is optional; you can instead enter your city and country manually, and you can deny or revoke the permission at any time in your device settings.
  • Letter content — the letters you write and exchange with other members, so we can deliver them and show your correspondence history.
  • Basic technical data — standard information needed to run the service, such as app version and device type, and security tokens stored securely on your device.

How we use your information

  • To create and manage your account and authenticate you.
  • To match you with relevant pen-pals based on your location, languages, and interests.
  • To deliver letters, track their delivery, and award stamps.
  • To keep the service safe, prevent abuse, and comply with our legal obligations.
  • To respond to your support requests and account-deletion requests.

Service providers we share data with

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers. We rely on a small number of trusted service providers who process data on our behalf:

  • Clerk — authentication and account management (email, password, Google sign-in).
  • Supabase — our database and backend, which stores your profile, letters, and related data.
  • Mapbox — maps used to display letter delivery and pen-pal locations.

Letterway does not use third-party advertising networks or analytics/crash-reporting SDKs.

Children

Letterway is not intended for children under 13, and you must be at least 13 years old to create an account. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will delete it. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us at tryletterway@gmail.com.

Data retention and security

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. Authentication tokens are stored in your device’s secure storage, and data is encrypted in transit. When you ask us to delete your account, we remove your personal data from Clerk and Supabase, except where we are required to retain limited information to meet legal obligations.

Your rights and choices

You can access and correct most of your information directly in the app. You can also request a copy of your data or ask us to delete your account and associated data. To delete your account, visit our account deletion page or email tryletterway@gmail.com.

International data transfers

Letterway is a global service. Your information may be processed and stored on servers located in countries other than your own, including by the service providers listed above. We take steps to ensure your data is handled in line with this policy wherever it is processed.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
